Overview

Pre-Apprenticeship Occupation: Emergency Medical Technician and CDL Truck Driver The City of Rock Hill has various CDL apprenticeship opportunities within Public Works, Utilities – Water & Sewer, and Parks, Recreation & Tourism (PRT) departments. Apprentices obtain their Commercial Driver’s License as part of working in their department and use the skills they gain throughout their roles in serving our community. According to Paul Iovanna in PRT, “I have learned so many things within this program. The CDL class helped me have a better understanding of the rules and regulations while behind the wheel. The other thing this program has taught me is to become a better driver with a truck and trailer, with the understanding of how the two work together.” Our newest program is an Emergency Medical Technician Apprenticeship through the Fire Department, which is part of all Firefighters’ onboarding and our fire recruit school. Aidan Thomas in Fire shared: “Taking this EMT class has greatly expanded my understanding of emergency medical care and made me a more well-rounded firefighter. I’ve gained the skills to provide critical medical assistance on scene while also reaping the benefits of enhancing the way I can serve my community. Having this better understanding of medical knowledge will go a long way in my career, and I am ever so grateful for the opportunity to take this course.”
