Overview

The University of Southern Mississippi formed the first registered Teacher Apprenticeship program in Mississippi in 2024, designed to support Teacher Assistants transition to licensed Teachers. USM students enrolled in the Teacher Assistant Pathway (TAP), Elementary Education BS for Teacher Assistants, may be eligible for funding and support as an apprentice. 

Apprentice Benefits

Individuals enrolled in USM's TAP pathway who are employed by a district partner may be eligible for benefits such as: 

  • Online coursework through USM's TAP pathway
  • Scholarships of $250 or more per semester (based on finanical need)
  • Paid Praxis exam fees
  • Differentiated student supports 
  • Focused USM support and professional development
