Overview

The California Community College Chancellor’s Office has announced the availability of $40M in grant funding through the California Apprenticeship Initiative New and Innovative Grant Program (CAI). The CAI grant is created to support new and innovative apprenticeship opportunities in priority and emerging industry sectors of California’s ever-changing workforce. The CAI Grant offers three categories of funding to support apprenticeship programs as they get launched: Planning Grants up to 120,000; Implementation Grants up to $1,500,000; and Expansion Grants up to $1,000,000. The Chancellor’s office is committed to supporting the Governor’s goal of serving 500,000 apprenticeships by 2029 in partnership with the Division of Apprenticeship Standards. California currently has about 93,000 registered apprentices and has an urgent need to create, innovate and scale the number of registered apprenticeship programs. Apprenticeships serve as a crucial link between traditional education and practical skills, addressing the demands of industries that thrive on a highly skilled and trained workforce.
