Overview

The American Manufacturing Apprenticeship Incentive Fund is managed by the Arkansas Department of Commerce and financed 100% with federal funds under a $35.8 million U.S. Department of Labor award. It uses a pay-for-performance model to help sponsors develop, expand, or join advanced manufacturing registered apprenticeship programs and hire apprentices nationwide.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are individual registered apprenticeship program sponsors and group sponsors or consortia (groups of employers, unions, industry intermediaries, trade associations, and similar organizations). See 29 CFR § 29.2 for definitions of employer and sponsor.

Supported occupations span more than 120 advanced manufacturing roles, including aerospace and defense, automotive manufacturing, biotechnology, shipbuilding and maritime, supply chain and automation, nuclear energy, and semiconductors.

Use of funds

$3,500 incentive per apprentice after successful completion of a 90-day probationary period. Incentives support newly enrolled apprentices, upskilled incumbent workers, and eligible former apprentices entering new advanced manufacturing programs. Sponsors must pass through the majority of funds to participating employers.

Application

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until 100% of available incentive funds are obligated.

FAQs

Is this the same grant as the five DOL Pay-for-Performance awards?

No. AMAIF is a related manufacturing incentive from a separate DOL cooperative agreement. It uses the same pay-for-performance approach and is open now to manufacturing RAP sponsors nationwide.
