Job description:
The Upfit Apprentice will perform vehicle detailing, parts kitting, light paperwork and documentation, shop/yard organization, and assisting technicians on straightforward jobs in the installation and modification of specialized equipment on vehicles, ensuring that all work is performed to company standards and customer specifications. This position is ideal for candidates with a basic understanding of automotive systems who are looking to gain hands-on experience and develop their skills in vehicle upfitting.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle prep & finish:
Wash/detail interiors/exteriors
Apply decals/placards
Final clean before delivery
Parts kitting & inventory:
Pull parts to pick‑lists
Restock consumables (loom, heat‑shrink, connectors, Fasteners)
Verify counts
Documentation:
Label harnesses/parts
Fill simple checklists
Snap before/after photos
File job packets
Shop/yard support:
Keep bays clean and 5S‑organized
Sweep/mop
Trash removal
Stage trucks
Light groundskeeping
Errands & logistics:
Parts run (as approved)
Receive deliveries
Tag and store items properly
Assist technicians with basic disassembly/reassembly and simple installs.
Assist in the installation of vehicle components such as service bodies, shelving, lighting, electrical systems, and other specialized equipment.
Perform basic modifications and adjustments to vehicles as directed by senior technicians or supervisors.
Follow detailed instructions and technical drawings to complete assigned tasks accurately and efficiently.
Quality Assurance:
Verify torque marks/labels are present, test lighting systems with a checklist, and flag issues to the lead tech.
Conduct basic quality checks on mechanical components to ensure proper installation and functionality.
Report any issues or discrepancies to senior technicians or supervisors for resolution
Tool and Equipment Handling:
Safely operate hand and power tools required for upfitting tasks.
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.
Training and Development:
Participate in on-the-job training to learn and develop technical skills related to vehicle upfitting.
Seek guidance and feedback from senior technicians and supervisors to improve performance and knowledge.
Stay up to date with company policies, safety procedures, and industry best practices.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
Maintain a clean and organized workspace and handle tools and equipment company safety policies.
Ensure that all upfitting activities comply with industry regulations and customer requirements.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for specific tasks.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic knowledge of automotive systems or experience in a related field (e.g., automotive repair, mechanical work) is preferred but not required.
Detailing experience preferred
Shop/warehouse experience preferred
Ability to read and interpret basic technical drawings and instructions.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Willingness to learn and take on new challenges in a fast-paced environment.

Physical and Safety Requirements:
Lift/carry up to 75 lbs; bend, kneel, stand for extended periods; work on ladders.
Comfortable working in various environmental conditions, including indoor and outdoor settings.
Follow safety protocols; wear PPE; keep a clean, organized workspace.
Valid driver's license for occasional parts runs.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday; occasional OT on Saturdays as needed.
Weekends as needed
