Correctly performs hair detangling processes
Sections hair into defined sections (based upon hair sectioning theory/industry standard parting methods) with a comb, and secures sections with clips
Performs a scalp analysis to check for conditions such as hair loss, dry scalp, dandruff, lice, etc.
Analyzes client hair to determine the correct shampoo and conditioner product usage
Shampoos, rinses, conditions, and dries hair and scalp or hairpieces with water, liquid soap, or other solutions
Applies scrub treatments to exfoliate the scalp and remove dead skin cells, product buildup, and other scalp impurities
Demonstrate knowledge of hair and scalp disorders and disease
Haircutting Principles and Techniques
Demonstrates ability to determine client face shape and choose a hairstyle to compliment it
Cut, trim and shape hair or hairpieces, based on customersâ instructions, hair type, and facial features, using clippers, scissors, trimmers and razors
Performs blunt cutting techniques where hair is cut straight across with scissors to create uniform length and a clean, sharp edge
Performs point cutting techniques where hair is cut with scissors at an angle to create a textured and feathered effect
Performs layering techniques where hair is cut in sections, with the top layers shorter than the bottom layers
Performs graduation techniques where hair is cut to gradually transition from shorter to longer lengths
Performs elevation techniques where hair is moved up and down to create layers, graduations, and different volumes and shapes (i.e. the angle at which hair is held vertically affects the final look of the cut)
Performs weight distribution techniques to manipulate hair sections during a haircut to strategically place the weight of the hair throughout the head
