We are looking for a Level 1 / Apprentice AV Technician who wants to learn a skilled trade and build a long-term career in the audio-video and low-voltage industry. Previous AV experience is not required. We are willing to train the right person. Position Summary The Level 1 Apprentice AV Technician works under the direction of a Lead Technician and assists with the installation of residential and commercial audio-video, networking, surveillance, automation, and low-voltage systems. This is an entry-level position designed for someone who wants to learn the AV and low-voltage trade. You will start by learning our installation standards, tools, cabling methods, equipment, documentation procedures, and job-site expectations. As your skills develop, you will be given increasingly technical responsibilities and the opportunity to advance within the company. What You'll Learn You will receive hands-on experience with: Running and installing Cat6, coax, speaker wire, fiber, and other low-voltage cabling Proper cable support, dressing, labeling, and documentation Terminating and testing network and low-voltage cabling Installing TVs, displays, speakers, cameras, access points, racks, and AV equipment Building and wiring professional equipment racks Basic networking, including routers, switches, Wi-Fi, and IP-connected devices Audio and video signal flow Surveillance and camera systems Home automation and control systems Lighting and shade control systems Using cable certification and diagnostic equipment Reading work orders, plans, wiring diagrams, and system documentation Troubleshooting and testing completed installations Responsibilities Assist Lead Technicians with residential and commercial installations Pull, route, secure, terminate, and label low-voltage cabling Install equipment and mounting hardware Assist with rack assembly, wiring, and cable management Maintain company installation and workmanship standards Keep tools, vehicles, equipment, and job sites clean and organized Accurately document completed work, job notes, time, and project information Follow job-site and company safety procedures Communicate professionally with coworkers, clients, contractors, and other trades Learn new products, installation techniques, and technologies Take direction from Lead Technicians while developing the ability to work independently Help load, unload, organize, and protect equipment and materials What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who: Shows up on time and is dependable Has a strong work ethic and positive attitude Takes pride in doing clean, professional work Can follow instructions and pays attention to details Is comfortable working with hand and power tools Enjoys technology and learning how things work Is willing to ask questions and learn from experienced technicians Can work effectively as part of a team Takes responsibility for their work Can communicate professionally with customers and coworkers Required Qualifications Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record Reliable transportation to our office Ability to safely use ladders and basic hand and power tools Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials commonly used in AV installations Ability to work in attics, crawlspaces, equipment rooms, construction sites, and other installation environments when required Ability to pass any background checks required for customer job sites Basic ability to use smartphones, computers, and mobile applications for work documentation Experience That Is Helpful — But Not Required Experience in any of the following is a plus: Audio/video installation Electrical or low-voltage work Structured cabling Networking or IT Security or surveillance systems Home automation Construction or skilled trades Live sound, theater, or production Automotive electronics Computer building or repair Mechanical or technical work Don't have professional AV experience? Career Advancement This position is the starting point of our technician career path: Level 1 - Apprentice Technician Learn installation fundamentals, company standards, cabling, equipment installation, documentation, and basic troubleshooting. Level 2 - AV Technician Perform installations more independently, configure equipment, troubleshoot systems, and take responsibility for defined portions of projects. Level 3 - Lead AV Technician Lead projects and installation crews, interpret system designs, troubleshoot complex systems, mentor technicians, and take ownership of projects in the field. Advancement is based on demonstrated skills, reliability, workmanship, communication, initiative, and the ability to take on greater responsibility.
