The International Union of Elevator Constructors Local #37 Joint Apprenticeship Program which is based in Columbus, OH will be accepting applications beginning December 7th, 2026. AApplications will be accepted from December 7th, 2026 @ 9:00 am EST until the 350th application is requested or December 22nd, 2026 @ 5:00 pm EST, whichever occurs first. Please click the apply button once the application period begins. If you have previously accepted a job as an apprentice in the IUEC, you may not apply to this recruitment. All requested applications must be completed and submitted by December 23rd, 2026 @ 5:00 pm EST. Applicants will then be invited to take the aptitude test. Applicants passing the aptitude test with at least a 70% with be scheduled for a tool assessment and interview. The interviewed applicants receive a composite score and are placed on a ranked hiring list using the score. Applicants are hired as needed and in order.

Responsibilities

1. Assisting in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the passenger and freight elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters and moving sidewalks under the direction of a Mechanic.

2. Manually loading, unloading and moving materials, equipment and tools from vehicles to work areas. --Requires lifting parts weighing up to 100 lbs.

3. Manually cleaning elevator car tops, machine rooms, pits, rails, and hoist ways within non-controlled climate fi eld setting.

4. Manually painting machine rooms and pit.

5. Using periods of high concentration and knowledge of elevator systems to assist Mechanic in electrical and mechanical installation, repair or service operations. Requires following written or verbal directions of mechanic and/or fi eld superintendent. Requires color perception to distinguish color-coded wiring components.

6. Maintaining elevator lighting fixtures.

7. Visually and audibly monitoring equipment operation to determine faulty functioning. Requires ability to withstand heights and cramped working conditions.

Skills

Mechanically inclined & must pass aptitude test.

Qualifications

1. Must be 17 years of age to apply and 18 years of age to be hired.

2. Provide an original copy of a high school diploma, transcript, or GED.
