Description
HHI Corporation is seeking a motivated Ironworker & General Tradesman to join our field construction team. This position is ideal for an individual who has existing welding experience and enjoys a variety of construction tasks rather than performing welding exclusively. The successful candidate will be responsible for structural field welding using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) processes while also assisting with all aspects of structural steel erection and general construction activities. This role requires someone who understands that welding is only one part of a successful ironworker's responsibilities and is willing to contribute wherever needed to help the team complete projects safely, efficiently, and with high quality. As a condition of employment, successful candidates must enroll in and actively participate in HHI Corporation's Ironworker Apprenticeship Program. The apprenticeship is designed to develop well-rounded ironworkers through structured training and hands-on field experience. The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, a strong work ethic, and a team-first attitude. They communicate effectively with customers, government representatives, inspectors, superintendents, foremen, and coworkers while maintaining HHI's commitment to safety, quality, and craftsmanship. Duties & Responsibilities Perform structural field welding in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) Set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment and tools Assist with structural steel erection, connecting, alignment, bolting, and rigging operations Perform grouting, concrete work, material handling, and general labor as required Read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, and welding symbols Inspect the quality of your own work and correct deficiencies as needed Maintain accurate project documentation Perform routine maintenance on assigned equipment Comply with all government, industry, and HHI safety, quality, and environmental requirements Participate in Daily Hazard Analysis (DHA) activities Demonstrate HHI's core values of Honesty, Hard Work, and Innovation Participate in HHI's Ironworker Apprenticeship Program Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications High school diploma or GED Ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances, including background checks Pass a pre-employment drug screening Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record Ability to pass the following AWS D1.1 welder qualification tests: 3G & 4G SMAW groove weld tests using E7018 electrodes on 3/8-inch plate 3G & 4G FCAW-G groove weld tests on 3/8-inch plate Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols Knowledge of rigging and safe material handling practices Minimum two years of forklift operating experience Ability to use common construction and fabrication tools, including tape measures, grinders, and other hand and power tools Ability to accurately read fractional and decimal measurements Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills Ability to solve problems and work independently with minimal supervision Willingness to rotate between welding and other construction tasks throughout the workday Willingness to travel, including occasional out-of-state assignments Ability to work overtime as needed Ability to perform physically demanding work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions Ability to lift at least 50 pounds Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, work in confined spaces, and wear required personal protective equipment, including fall protection and welding PPE Dependable, safety-conscious, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning Compensation Starting wage: $25.00 per hour or higher, depending on qualifications and experience Opportunities for advancement through HHI's Ironworker Apprenticeship Program and demonstrated performance
