Our Service team provides equipment inspections, warranty support, service, repairs, and preventative maintenance. Services are performed at our Massachusetts headquarters, our Salem, New Hampshire facility, and in the field where our customers are. This language tracks the current CMC Service description rather than the old All Access version. The job The Aerial Lift Service Technician Apprentice is an entry-level developmental position within our Service team designed for someone who wants to build a career as an Aerial Lift Technician. In this role, you will work alongside experienced technicians while developing hands-on knowledge of CMC equipment, shop operations, equipment safety, and basic maintenance and repair practices. You will support the Service team by preparing equipment for technicians, moving and staging machines, loading and unloading equipment, transporting equipment and parts between locations, completing quality checks, and assisting with basic maintenance and shop activities. This position is intended to provide the practical experience and technical foundation necessary to progress into an Aerial Lift Technician role. Who we are looking for We are looking for someone who enjoys working with their hands, has strong mechanical aptitude, and wants to learn the equipment service trade. The successful candidate will be safety-conscious, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working around machinery and heavy equipment. You should enjoy working as part of a team, be willing to learn from experienced technicians, and take pride in keeping equipment and work areas organized and ready for service. Previous experience with machinery, automotive work, construction equipment, or a shop environment is helpful but is not required. More important is the ability and desire to learn. Job Responsibilities Maintain safety as a primary concern in all work activities. Assist Aerial Lift Technicians with equipment setup, service, maintenance, and repair activities. Prepare and stage machines for technician work. Move equipment safely throughout the shop, warehouse, and yard. Receive, track, stage, and assist with shipping equipment and related materials. Load and unload inbound and outbound trucks and containers. Operate Class IV forklifts and Class VII telehandlers after appropriate training and certification. Transport equipment and parts between CMC locations and service locations as needed. Assist with equipment washing, preparation, and basic or light maintenance. Complete equipment condition documentation, quality checks, and required checklists. Assist with maintaining an organized and efficient yard, warehouse, and shop. Support the placement and organization of tools, shelving, racks, equipment, and materials. Maintain clean and safe interior and exterior work areas. Identify and communicate opportunities to improve shop, yard, or warehouse organization and workflow. Greet customers professionally and direct them to the appropriate CMC team member when needed. Demonstrate consistent, regular, and reliable attendance and be ready to work at the designated start time. Participate actively in training and hands-on learning to develop the skills required for progression into an Aerial Lift Technician position. Perform special projects and other duties as assigned in support of the Service team and organization. That preserves the substantive duties from the old description, including forklifts, transportation, loading/unloading, yard organization, equipment documentation, quality checks, and light maintenance. Requirements Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card within the required timeframe. Mechanical aptitude and interest in developing technical service skills. Commitment to safe work practices. Ability to follow instructions and learn from experienced technicians. Strong attention to detail. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to operate or learn to operate Class IV forklifts and Class VII telehandlers. Comfortable working around aerial lifts and at heights of approximately 60-105 feet. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and regularly sit, stand, bend, reach, and move throughout a shop, warehouse, and yard environment. Ability to complete OSHA, equipment-operation, and other required safety training. The DOT card, driver's license, height requirement and 50-pound physical requirement all come directly from the existing role. Desired Qualifications Previous experience working with machinery, automotive equipment, heavy equipment, construction equipment, or in a shop environment. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Class IV or Class VII forklift/telehandler certification. IPAF certification. CPR/AED certification. Basic familiarity with mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems.
