Responsibilities

Key responsibilities for the Mechanical Machine Build Apprentice include:

  1. Complete a four-year apprenticeship program, including 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and related technical instruction at Lansing Community College.

  2. Maintain excellent attendance, punctuality, and academic performance throughout the program.

  3. Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations in the workplace.

  4. Develop proficiency in reading technical drawings, using precision measuring instruments, and understanding various materials used in machine construction.

  5. Cultivate problem-solving skills and contribute effectively to team projects.

  6. Maintain detailed records of work performed and skills acquired.

  7. Continuously seek opportunities for self-improvement and uphold Bekum America's high standards of quality and precision in all tasks.

Successful completion of this program leads to a U.S. Department of Labor Journeyman's certificate. Bekum encourages apprentices to pursue an Associate's Degree through our tuition assistance program.

Skills

The ideal candidate for the Apprentice program will be a high school senior graduating in 2026, or a recent graduate. It is imperative that the applicant possesses the physical and mental capabilities necessary to perform the work of the selected skilled trade. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required for this role.

Qualifications

Prospective apprentices are required to submit the following documents for consideration:

  1. An up-to-date resume detailing career objective, relevant skills, employment history, and educational background.

  2. Official High School transcripts, current as of the application date.

  3. A formal letter of recommendation from a non-family member, such as a teacher, academic advisor, or employer, attesting to the applicant's character and aptitude.

  4. If applicable, verifiable documentation of academic or professional achievements attained during High School years.
