Lays out and examines metal stock or workpieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met. Fastens seams or joints together with welds, bolts, cement, rivets, solder, caulks, metal driver clips, or bonds to assemble components into products or to repair sheet metal items. Fabricates or alters parts using shears, hammers, punches, or drills. Selects gauges or types of metal or nonmetallic material, according to product specifications. Transports prefabricated parts to construction sites for assembly and installation. Drills and punches holes in metal, for screws, bolts, and rivets. Maintains equipment, making repairs or modifications when necessary. Trims, files, grinds, deburrs, buffs, or smooths surfaces, seams, or joints of assembled parts, using hand tools or portable tools.
